Sharing wire and Wireless connection with neighbour : Security issue

Recently, my neighbors asked for internet connection and I gave them both wired and wireless connections, my wireless is protected with password but i gave that to them aswell. now i want to know that can the access my pc or can they check my router logs, i hv protected by router with different password, now question is that can they access my system, its logs , my passes, e banking accounts, and internet logs,if yes then what should i do to protect that (any software or configuration), the guy that i shared internet knows programming and internet hacking (dat i came to know later), i am afraid of loosing stuff, one thing else if i want to refuse him for further internet sharing what reason sud i give him???

If they have access to the configuration area of the router, which they do with your password, they can pretty much access anything they want unless you have a software firewall in place on the computer and don't have any file sharing features enabled. Maybe even then depending on how knowledgeable they are.

Consider people can hack your system WITHOUT already having admin access to the router, imagine what they can do WITH it.

Just a bad idea all the way around.

I can't make any recommendation on this issue as in my opinion it's a bad idea to begin with and I wouldn't want to feel like I gave you a false sense of security. Allowing ANYBODY to have access to your network that you don't FULLY trust with your wife, kids, car keys and bank account is the same as walking down the street in any big city alley at night with your wallet in plain sight.

Both. But at least with wireless you can go into the router, set up a guest account, change the password so they can't access it anymore and tell them to access the guest account which would limit their access to the router configuration. You should be able to find instructions on configuring a guest account in the router manual or by googling guest account and the model of your router.

Further to all the above, what's to stop your neighbour from giving out your WiFi password to their family and friends when they come to visit? If someone who is reasonably tech-savvy can access your network they could access your files as well.

If I had access to your network, I would see what devices were connected and establish what operating system was installed. I'd then check them one-by-one until I found a vulnerability to exploit. Do you have a Windows computer where your name is the username and the password is blank? If so, I can ask your neighbour for your name and I would then have complete access to that computer and can do anything I please. I can copy or delete your personal files, I can install a malicious program, I can go through your browsing history, the possibilities would be endless.

If you had a Samsung tablet or smartphone, I could install Kies and sync your contact list, calendar, emails, photos and videos. If I was particularly knowledgable I could install a custom firmware and brick the device. I could even take a backup of your Samsung device and restore it to my own one. If you had payment details for the Play Store saved on the device, I could purchase music, videos and apps. If you had an Amazon account saved on the device, I can use that to make purchases. If you had a PayPal account saved on the device which was linked to your bank account, I could withdraw money from it.

Personally, I would change the WiFi password immediately and tell your neighbour to get their own connection. It's not just your neighbour that you need to worry about, it's their associates as well.

You can restrict other people's access to the router settings page by allowing only your devices' MAC addresses. Other than that keep your file sharing off when you are not using them.You may buy another router like TP-LINK WR740n which costs near about 10$ .connect a ethernet cable from your existing router's LAN port to the WAN port of the new router.And then put your neighbor's ethernet cable to 1 of the lan ports of the new router.Turn firewalls on in both the routers.If your existing network is like 192.168.1.x /24 ,then set your new routers lan address something like 192.168.2.x/24. This way you are creating 2 different networks but both having internet.
Be brave enough to not to let them access your computers or routers physically.I am no pro but this things should work.And now on don't ever let others have a wired connection from your systems.

Change your wireless password and disconnect their wired connection if you don't trust them.

If your router supports it, you can set up a guest wireless network that will only give them internet access but no access to your devices.

Otherwise it's never a good idea to share your connection with someone you don't trust.
