he mainly uses it for gaming
right now he has q9550 core2 quad at 2.83 ghz with 4gb of ddr3 ram
and a corsair psu 750 watt bronze certifeid or whatever equipped with a
superclocked gtx 570 Ti
this system runs games really well i mean his little rig their can handle bioshock infinite on ultra
at like 58 fps but its his money so and he wants to spend around 400$ and he just wants my help putting whatever we get together

so i was think he has a nice video card i mean it has Average G3D Mark of like 4500 benchmark as a score so will probably keep the gtx 570 ti card and the corsair 750 watt psu
focus on processor speed and if later if he wants to add a better card or new ram thats fine

so i was looking at this computer on ebay here's the link
http://www.ebay.com/itm/INTEL-LGA1150-CORE-I5-4690k-CUSTOM-DESKTOP-PC-FAST-COMPUTER-SYSTEM-/231359181846?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35de14f416

and just gonna take out whatever video card it has and the psu unit on it
and just swap it with the corsair 750 watt psu and gtx 570 ti that i already have
and maybe even take that 4gb of ddr3 ram he has to make it go up to 8gb of ddr3 of ram

so i guess im asking
how does that all sound, you guys think it would be a bump up from his original rig
just tell me your thought or if you think he would be happy

Solution
Sir,

Going for ivy-bridge as of now won't be a smart move when you can get haswell, haswell refresh in the same price. ivy-bridge represents third gen of Intel i seris CPUs whereas haswell is 4th gen series. With broadwell upon us closely followed by Skylake and then cannonlake, I would like to make a request to stick with or consider haswell as a minimum.

Rest is your choice sir.

What Mobo do your son have?

If you buying the 2nd computer just to get some parts i would rather recommend you buy components and not a whole set.

I would recommend this CPU and MoBo, aint getting much better for gaming with this cpu and mobo:
http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/

I can add 4GB more of RAM but then i will need to know what ram your son already have.

I would be very wary of buying this PC

Title = 4690k cpu - description says 4670k cpu not big deal, but then the motherboard used is based on a very basic chipset that would prevent you using the maximum from the CPU installed. The "k" unlocked CPU's need the Z97 chipset to be able to use the unlocked multiplier options.

250gb HDD is not going to last long (15-20gb for Windows) before you install any games..

Windows 7 trial ? so basically full version with no licence key

1 x 4gb memory module - Intel CPU's run best in dual channel mode (2 x 2gb / 2 x 4gb etc)

budget case with no mention of the PSU. Lets suppose all the other points are not an issue for you, having a cheap low quality PSU is asking for trouble.

I would recommend you this build. Use it along with GPU, PSU, HDD, PC Case of your existing system. 570Ti, Any reason to stick with it? Sell it and get 750Ti minimum with this powerful CPU

Sir please just don't compare the results of both CPUs there are other factors involved as well. For non-k series CPUs it would be best value to have 4460 than 4690. Both have quad cores. Only difference is 4690 has multi-threading whereas 4460 does not have this support. Anyhow, if you are set for 4690 then I guess it is pointless to debate over here.

So far as 4670 and 4690 are concerned. Prefer 4690 out of these two because price is same but later is from haswell refresh series with improvements like use of TIM, more frequency, more overclocking potential.

Sorry, if you got confused.

but based on all that i think all my sons really needs is just a new mother board and psu cause i pretty much got everything else and a big case to put it all into for around 400$ anyone have have ideas on what kinda motherboard and cpu only that i could get for around 400
cause i already got the ram 1tb hardrive a corsair 750 watt and a gtx 570 so ya i guess i just need a motherboard and a cpu for around 400$
no you guys arnt confusing me you are helping me figure some things out tho
and i think my stress lvl went down you guys should really think about charging rates for you time and input lolz next best thing compared to seeing a counseler lolz :)

but anyways i guess i just need a motherboard and a cpu processor and ill stripp the old rig
put all the new stuff into it and add all the other stuff for around 400$ for a new motherboard and cpu
thats sounds more like the track i should go down

570Ti is a good card but new designs in GM204 chipset are much better. Anyhow, this is your decision to make. Stick with this card some more time.

Meanwhile, consider i5 4460 and H97 chipset series mobo which I recommended earlier. 4460 and 4690 bot are quad core CPUs without hyper-threading. It is a waste to buy 4690 from value consideration.

If your son wants to overclock the system then let us know, revised build will be posted.
