How does this budget system look? It will be used for light gaming(TF2, Counterstrike), browsing, Office docs, etc. No overclocking.

I got the Windows 7 Pro for $60. So the total build is $574.

Solution
Assuming that $600 budget needs to include the OS, $540 on parts. If you're making a gaming system, my humble suggestion (sans OS). A stronger video card will give you much more game performance than slightly faster RAM:

Those are some nice choices! Thanks. I would like to stick with the ATX motherboard if possible. But it makes perfect sense to spend less on the Ram and more on the video card. :star:

Okedoke, with full ATX board, then

One other (slightly overbudget) option. If Counter-Strike and Team Fortress 2 are the most demanding games you will be running, here's a system with a card than can run those games well and an absolute powerhouse CPU. The Haswell 1230+ Xeons are exactly like I7's, but for much cheaper. You can also drop in a much stronger video card down the road without changing any other parts.

If you live near a microcenter, they currently have this CPU for $190!!!, putting the build back under budget :)
