3 pin fan in 4 pin Mobo header?

I had some quite bad rattling going on with my CM Sickleflow fan. I didn't keep the receipt so I can't return it.

Decided to use gravity in my favor, put the fan on the top of the case as opposed to the rear. It seems to work, but now I have to plug it into the 4 pin header on the motherboard.

It seems to be running at a lower speed. Like, when it was blowing out the back, it was enough to blow my hair about haha. Why is this?

Also, in ET6, the mobo is registering a CPU fan and a System fan, along with RPM. It didn't do this before as it was plugged in via Molex.

I thought 3 pin fans couldn't be controlled or even seen with out the 4th PWM pin? Seems strange. Can I control it? Read somewhere that some motherboards control 3 pin fans via voltage.

Solution
they usually have speed control enabled by default. Get in your BIOS, somewhere you may be able to set the fan to constant fullspeed, it should have the same speed as having it connected to molex.

4 pin fans can be controlled through PWM (4th pin), 3 pin fans can't and will run at full speed if connected to a 4 pin connector, unless you can configure it in your BIOS to be controlled by voltage (which actually works for both 3 and 4 pin)

Took a look, and everything was just the same as my CPU fan. Didn't mention that it wasn't PWM, or controlled by voltage, it just showed me the RPM changing constantly, and I set it to not be automatically managed, and it's staying at the same RPM now, but still only 1800. Still slower than when it was plugged in via molex. CPU temps are now up by ~10 degrees. Still safe, but I would have thought that it would have got rid of more heat, considering heat rises and the fan is on the top and not the back but apparently not.
