Specs:
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro x64
Card: ASUS DirectCU II GTX 970
PSU: ThermalTake TR2 600W
Memory: 16GB - Checked, all in place
Processor: Core i7 3770K
Board: Sabertooth Z77

I recently purchased a new ASUS DirectCU II GTX 970 but I'm having issues running it with my machine. I uninstalled all of my AMD Catalyst CC and related drivers and installed the new drivers for the GTX card. I replaced the card, ensuring that it was secured in the PCI-E slot correctly, screwed in, and even zip tied in as it is a big card and I was worried it might damage the PCI slot. I installed it with the (6+2) PCI pin connector from my PSU and put my system back together. I booted the machine up and only one of my two monitors actually had a signal. (DVI and HDMI, DVI had the signal.)
That was problem #1.

I then passed the BIOS screen and Windows 8 began to load up. Then the screen went black and my keyboard turned off but all the lights were still on inside the computer. (Boot button, LED1 on the card, mobo and fan lights.) I was unable to turn the computer off by pressing the power button once but I rather had to hold the power button for 5 seconds until the computer shut off. I turned the computer back on and I get a message "Diagnosing. Windows failed to restart." Windows then asks me if I want to restart or go into advanced settings. I restart. I get the black screen as soon as windows finishes its loading screen. I hold the power button down. Turn the computer back on. Get the same "Windows failed to restart." I go into advanced settings, safe mode, and uninstall all the drivers. Boot it up. Same thing, black screen. I go back into safe mode, install the drivers, same thing, black screen after windows loading screen.
That was problem #2, although I'm sure they're related in some way.

I then disconnected the card and booted with integrated graphics. Everything works fine now, no OS issues or anything else. The problem just arises when I use this graphics card. My previous graphics card, Radeon HD 6870 worked fine in this slot minus one minor issue. It was also a really big card. Whenever I bumped my computer the graphics card would crash with little to no errors whatsoever. I could then restart my computer or change to integrated graphics and it would work as if nothing just happened until I would accidentally knock it again. Sometimes it would happen without me even knocking it. Eventually it got to the point where I removed it but it didn't work anymore so I bought this new card in hopes that it would be the one that actually did what I told it to do. Perhaps I damaged the slot in this way? Is my PSU good enough? Something to do with drivers?

Thank you so much,

That worked, thanks man. I didn't think it would because it was booting into Windows and it was crashing IN windows. It's funny how little clues like that throw you so far away from the actual solution to the problem.
