I'm currently trying to help my friend out by potentially fix his computer. Here's the story.....
My friend might be shutting down his Window's 8.1 PC by pressing and holding the power button on the tower (EEEEEKKKKK i know...) anyway, one night when he tried to boot it up again, instead of booting, it went to a window saying something about the boot was not working or something (0xc00014c). Problem is, he doesn't have the discs with him, we're at college away from home...
So my idea was to pull the hard drive out and stick it in my PC, and then do a diagnostic and see what I can do. System diagnostic comes back as everything running just fine, so now I think I can assume that the hard drive isn't at fault which makes me think a windows critical file is corrupt.
Is there anything I can do to fix it from my machine without the discs? PLEASE HELP!
