I'm hung up on either deciding for the higher resolution of 2560x1440 on a 27" panel with a lower refresh rate of 60hz or going to 1920x1080 possibly on a 24" panel with 144hz and maybe gsync.

Or going korean and getting something like this and hoping I don't get dead pixels and only OC'ing to 120hz ish..

I've been reading reviews for weeks and can't decide on anything. The ROG Swift is too expensive at $800+ I know Acer is coming out with their new panels in March for ??? price with everything and gsync, but I kinda don't want to wait that long..

Thoughts?

I'm running
Two GTX 970 STRIX in SLI
Intel i5-4690K
16GB Ram (G.Skill Ripjaw X series 2 x 4 x 2)

I'm in a similar position to you, having just got a new machine and 1080p 60Hz is well below what my card, 970 Strix as well, with my games could accomplish. I've pretty much decided to get a 2560x1440 27'' >= 60Hz Korean monitor as I keep reading mixed reviews on whether the jump to 144Hz is worth the investment. Sounds from online that the pixel issues with the Korean models are rarer than you might be anticipating. G-Sync is neat but I doubt that I'll miss the difference if I don't have it, I'll miss the money more. I personally can't see my gaming experience being sufficiently improved by G-Sync to warrant the extra cost.

I'm not sure what your uses are, but for me more real estate would be nice in the less demanding games, and a heck of a lot better when coding and doing productivity things. I have higher res at work, and it pains me when I come home to 1080p, I don't think 1080p at 144Hz would improve the situation. Again what are you planning to do with it, I assume gaming, FPS titles?

I'm looking at this too.

I'm planning on future proofing. I may be playing FPS, watching movies, Witcher 3.. who knows.

I build my systems every 4/5 years to crush things for awhile. I don't want to have to second guess my monitor a few months from now.

I agree that I think 1080p is not doing it justice. I just need a 1440p 144hz but I don't think that exists that isn't the ROG Swift yet.
