Internal USB 3.0 connector leading from the front panel USB ports to the motherboard socket is too wide to fit in the socket.

Hi, when i try connecting the internal USB 3.0 connector from the front panel to the motherboard it wont go in because it rubs up against another connect on the motherboard.

Antec Three Hundred Two case
MSI z97 PC Mate motherboard

I was thinking of getting a USB 3.0 20 pin male to female extension cable that had skinnier connectors. But i thought maybe someone had a better solution, or new of a cheaper adapter.

Any ideas?

I found this extension cable, and from looking at the pictures i think it is skinnier and will actually fit into the socket. I also called Fry's and the guy said all the connectors are prety much the same size maybe he didnt know about this. Why would MSI even make a motherboard that didnt fit stuff correctly?

I think I understand your problem... The cable from the case isn't able to fit into the port, right?

It's ok to use adapters and other "fixes" to get stuff connected inside your computer... so I don't see why it wouldn't fit... just make sure you double check the size. 10-15 years ago I bought my first real gaming card for an HP Media Center computer and it should have fit... but the 24-pin port on the motherboard for the main power was located exactly where the back end of the card would rest... so I couldn't push the card all the way down. I was able to resolve that problem by buying a PCI Express Riser card that raised my graphics card about 1/2 in from the motherboard... worked like a charm.

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping someone would point me in the direction of a certain product though.

In the link of my OP, there is a Silver wire USB3.0 extension cable. The pics make it look like it would fit perfectly.

But it's made out of silver... is that good or bad? Like is it worse than standard copper, or whatever material cables are normally made out of?

Just enter a search for USB 3.0 internal header extension... You should be able to find much better prices like on Newegg or Amazon...
