I have purchased a 4 pin to 9 pin firewire. So I'm all connected but do not have a clue what I need to do next? the disc that came with the camcorder I get this "You can't open the application Canon Digital video Installer because PowerPC applications are no longer supported." Any Suggestions?

What video editing software are you using to import the video? Have you tried importing through iMovie?
