I'm building a computer, and I finally got all of the parts together. I put it together and turned it on. My motherboard complained to me with a short beep and a long beep. I tried using a different 2gb stick of ram but it still gave me the same beep. Nothing is outputted to the display. Why is it doing this and how can I fix it?

My build is:
PCPartPicker Build
CPU: AMD FX-4350 4.2GHz Quad-Core
Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 Micro ATX AM3+
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600
Storage: Hitachi Deskstar 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB Superclocked
Case: Thermaltake VM30001W2Z ATX Mid Tower
PSU: Antec 450W ATX12V

Thanks,
Virus

What does the motherboard owners manual say about the beep pattern? We have a troubleshooting checklist in the stickies at the top of the forum for this type of problem. If you perform all the steps in the checklist it should help you determine what's causing the problem. There's also a link to the checklist in my signature.

Take your motherboard battery out for one minute and put it back in to reset your cmos. If it doesn't work, take out your GPU.

You mean try to boot it with no RAM?

I did that and it just gave me one long continuous beep that didn't stop until I powered down the system. I found out that it will post if I connect it to the gpu display port. It still beeps though.

Do you mean a normal one short beep? Because that's normal. What kind of display output did you use before?

Well, I have no idea how it happened. I invited my friend over and turned it on. It worked, with a nice one short beep. I didn't replace anything. Next time I have computer problem, I'm gonna invite him over again and hope his lucky aura helps me out.
