Hello everyone. Earlier I asked a question about reinstalling a new OS (this is somewhat relevant to that).

I need to install the OS so I am backing up all of the files that I can. I was wondering:

Is it possible to back up the drivers for my hardware (for my mic, my graphics card, my network adapter, etc)?

I went into device manager and found the driver files for every device that I want to copy. Would it be as simple as copying the files from the PC to a thumbstick, then once I install my new OS, copy them and the device be ready for use?

Solution
NO. Go online and download the drivers you need. They must be installed not cut and pasted. The installation writes data to the registry that is need to let windows work properly with the drivers. Also many driver packages also come with utilities: Like AMD video drivers and Catalyst Control Center. Also by using the latest drivers you insure compatibility with the OS. Don't forget the chip set drivers and any others for the MB and it's on board devices.

I was asking because it took me a long time (and I mean a long time) to find the drivers fro some things. I looked on the websites of the manufacturers and found nothing so I had to keep looking. Anyway, I lost the website where I had gotten the drivers so I have to look and see if I can find them again.

Thanks for your input.
