Unique questions about the new Alienware graphics amplifier

Hello currently my rig is a modded Alienware x51 r2 I bought back in 2013. I'm ready to upgrade my graphics card but as you know the x51 r2 is a bricked power supply maxed out at 300w and I would like to upgrade to a gtx980 without buying an external PS and have it all trashy looking with a x51 with swiss cheese holes so i can make it work. I would like buy this little guy http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/alienware-graphics-amplifier?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&sku=452-BBRG&redirect=1 and use for the x51 since it looks classier. Also the connection type for the graphics amp looks like PCI E4.0 which is new and my mother board is old so i was wondering if i need to get something like this http://www.banggood.com/EXP-GDC-Laptop-External-PCI-E-Graphics-Card-p-934367.html or my current setup is fine?
