Hi all thanks in advance.

Basically i bought a new PSU to power my sapphire r9 290. Its the EVGA 1000w G2. My motherboard is the ASUS m5a99x evo r2.0. I tried installing my new PSU so when i finished i went to boot up and my fans just flashed and PC shut down. This happened everytime. So i messed around with wires and cables at the cpu power socket thinking this is my problem but i couldnt get it to work. Now iv no little green light on my motherboard as you usually do when connected to AC. So i try my old PSU and i still have no green light on the mobo.

Can anyone help ? Thanks.

Solution
Looking up your MB, you have an 8-pin CPU power connector. Put the two 4-pin connectors together and plug into the 8-pin slot on the MB.

okay so im after wiping my case and re fitted everything and still no sign of life. I cant help but think that the cpu power is my problem. I dont fully understand the cables and their functions yet you see. Basically i have my cpu cable that came with my psu plugged into the CPU1 section on the psu and going over to my CPU power input. Now that end of the cable is split in two but only one half fits into the input.. but from what iv read i think that should still supply power ?

ps. sorry for the explaining its just hard to type

okay my new psu connectors has this 8 pin connector right ? split in two. But only one half of the connector will connect to the motherboard. they do not match

maybe you have the wrong connector? Look for another 8-pin (two 4's) that has the same shape as the pins on the board. If I found your correct PSU, you should have two 8-pin CPU power connectors. Both (4 +4). You might be getting the PCIe cables mixed up?

that is highly likely sadly. Not great with the cables. Although this may be the problem did try to swap back my old psu and still got nothing. (XFX 650w) It has a cable actually connected to the psu (non removable) that fitted my mobo cpu power.
