Nasty feedback from CD player

Recently I have experienced extremely high level of feedback emitting from my CD player when I try to play a disc. I do not experience this deafening feedback when using the stereo to amplify TV audio through the auxiliary. Further, I switched the CD player RCA output to phono input on the pre-amp and the feedback was there.

I have connected a mobile CD player to the pre-amp with the same set of RCA cables and although the quality is less than desired compared to what my home stereo CD player sounded like, the feedback is gone.

Subsequently I connected the CD player to a spare mini-stereo unit using a new set of RCA cables and the feedback was present. Could the feedback be solved by something as simple as replacing the RCA jacks or am I just hoping for a miracle?

Thanks in advance.

Solution
Well, IMHO if it was a high-end product even 17 years ago, repairing it probably makes more sense than buying one of today's disposables.
I'm not sure this is "feedback" or mismatched impedance. New jacks won't fix that. You say you've tried phono inputs also, besides the Aux or CD inputs, and gotten the same results. Your CD player's amplifier may simply be dying. How old is it? Computers are not the only devices in which electrolytic capacitors can age and fail.

Perhaps it is worth having it repaired then. The hum could indeed be consistent with the loss of some filtering capacity that would be caused by degraded capacitors. If you have a look inside it, you may see some that are bulging, leaking, or cracked. Often, the bad capacitors can be replaced.
