Hello everyone,

I was wondering if I should upgrade my current CPU to an AMD FX-9590. I currently have a FX-8350 OCed to 4.6 GHz but I have been wondering if I should upgrade due to the age and lower performance of the 8350. I have heard many sides to this question but I am still unsure. Also, this upgrade will be purely based on gaming if that helps.

absolutely not. i'd never even consider it. you're better off upgrading mobo/cpu to a Z97/4790k or a 6/8core lga2011v3 setup.

upgrading from a 4.6ghz 8350 to the heatmizer/powerhog fx9590 wouldnt net you enough of a performance increase to warrant the time it takes to physically swap the cpu's...nevermind the cost associated with doing so.

You won't see many benefits except some really slightly increase in gaming performance, that would be around 3-7% FPS. It's NOT worth of upgrading to a more newer CPU in the FX family. Want a serious upgrade? Shoot for an i7 4790k. That would boost your performance to the skies

The 9590 is utterly pointless, especially if you already have an OC'd 8350. The 9590 is only certified to work with a couple of motherboards, it produces ludicrous amounts of heat and draws insane amounts of power all for just 400MHz extra. There's no way that's worth the money. The 9590's singlethreaded performance is still not great, even at 5GHz.

If you really want to do a worthwhile upgrade, get an i7 or wait for Zen. The 9590 is not worth your money.

Well everything you heard is wrong. Or you made it up. Of course you can't confirm it. The 8350 has a 125 watt TDP. The 9590 has a 220 watt TDP. The 9590 is basically a factory overclocked 8350. They barely run at 4.7-5 GHz turbo on only four cores. There is no overclocking headroom.

I have no reason to make up anything. I guess it's just that everything I've heard was wrong.

Ye, like the others said - save your money for upgrade!

Also, the 9590 has those insane power requirements for the motherboard and PSU so I'd recommend getting and i7 LGA 1150 if you want great per-core performance and four cores. Plus it's more power efficient :)
