CPU-Intel i7 4790K Devils Canyon

CPU Cooler-stock for now. I might get the PH-TC14PE later on but I was looking at the H100i because I was going to overclock later on and wanted a liquid cooler for that since this build is capable/optimized for it.

Thermal compound- Arctic Cooling MX4

Motherboard-Asus Maximus VII Formula

Memory- Corsair Vengeance Pro 16 gig (2x8) DDR3 1866

Storage-Samsung 850 EVO 120 GB SSD

Mass storage-Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM

GPU-Asus GeForce GTX 970 4g strix

Case-Corsair 750 ATX Full Tower Case

Power Supply- Corsair 760W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

Optical Drive-Asus DRW 24F1ST DVD/CD Writer

Operating System-Microsoft Windows 8.1 64 bit

Monitor-Asus VG248QE 144hz 24”

Keyboard-Razer BlackWidow Chroma

Mouse-Razer DeathAdder Chroma

Headphones-Astro A40 + MixAmp Pro - Black 7.1 Channel

Total:$2404.65 w/shipping and after Rebate. Pretty expensive but I am trying to buy components to last. I was thinking of doing "bill me later" or neweggs "preferred account" to finance the computer, I could save up for 2-3 months but if I could I would like to get it asap.

I picked the A40s because my friend has had his for over 4 years now with no major incident so they seemed durable and high quality. And other than price I couldn’t find any reason why not to get it in reference to the performance but if you guys have a better headset I’m all ears because Id rather not spend $250 on a headset lol.

Also, I have word documents that I regularly use, is there a built in trial version of microsoft office that comes with on it as stock or do you have to download the trial/buy the full version?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Is the most intensive thing you will do is gaming? If you're not doing video editing or image editing, an i5 4690k would be a better buy.

16GB is overkill for games. 8GB is fine. You can easily add on another 8GB ram module to make it 16GB in the future.
120GB SSD is ok but 250/256GB is better if you plan to install some AAA titles that may require 50GB+ per game.
Case choice is your personal preference.

If you just using a single GTX 970, 550-650W is enough. For SLI, I would suggest the EVGA 750W SuperNova G2 psu but if you prefer Corsair AX 760W then that is fine.
Sound-wise I would prefer the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x over the Astro A40 at the cost of no built in microphone. But it's a personal preference.
You would need to download MS Office trial yourself or buy a licence if you want the full version. There are alternatives to MS Office such as Google docs, Openoffice, Libreoffice etc...

I was going to get into streaming, programming, and editing. I never had my own computer and those things sound interesting so I would like to leave the door open to those routes by getting the 4790k, not to say the other cards couldnt but it seems the 4790k has the best performance for all those categories.

And that is also why I got the 16 gigs for other applications that I would like to get into that I already mentioned.

The SSD I was going to use as the boot drive and for a few games that I play very often and a couple that I play fairly regularly, I dont plan on getting a monstrous SSD just something small for a few things, but I do understand your advisory.

Im kinda paranoid with spending this much money on this build so I wanted to get a n 80+ platinum to ensure a safe/efficient supply of power.

Yeah I wanted to have a mic since I play league of legends and final fantasy 14, I was just trying to get some opinions on some possibly cheaper headsets, I dont mind paying for quality but if I dont have to pay $250 for a certain level of quality I would rather not.

And yeah ty on the heads up I dont write a whole lot of papers but I do take notes occasionally on things that I think about so some sort of word processing would be nice and yeah I found out about the free trial then I went to best buy and discovered the permanent copy is like $140 for windows office.

80+ bronze is enough. The 80 rating doesn't always relate to quality. There are other factors collectively which will determine the quality. There are some decent psu that have lower 80 rating. 80 bronze would be the minimum.
This is the tiered list of psu. Tier 1 and 2 are recommended. You would get Tier 3 if you had to but anything else should be avoided.:

EVGA G2 750W is a decent quality psu with a 10 year warranty once registered.

Thanks, reading over it now. Do you have any comment on the motherboard I chose? I went to the local computer parts store and the guy couldnt express enough how much I should avoid asus in favor of gigabyte.

There was a clock bug with the UEFI with the ASUS motherboards but it should be resolved. Probably cause people to lose some trust with ASUS.

I did not have this problem with my ASUS V GENE.

Can't really comment as I haven't tried them. But they are premium motherboards and Maximus formula is their "flagship gaming-ish" motherboard, expect decent build quality for a premium price. You are paying more for the branding of ROG as well. There are other alternatives which can be cheaper.
