R9 295x2 vs gtx 980

Which is better for 1080p 144 hz gaming.
What i've come up with.
Crossfire support is still spotty..I have a hd 7990 currently.
Gtx 980 runs cooler, better drivers from nividia. Game support for nvidia gameworks keeps rising as well.
The x2 has double the raw performance.

Also, the games i am most wanting to play is dying light and evolve.

I can get a 980 matrix platinum and the r9 295x2 for the same price.

if you want to maximize frame rates, the 295x2 is by far the more powerful card, close to double the performance of the 980... it also draws more than double the power.

fyi the 295x2 is basically the new generation of your 7990. and if you're coming form a 7990, the 980 will be a downgrade in performance, of course you're running on a single card so there'll be no CF issues

that's a downgrade from your current GPU, I'm not sure why you would do that but it's your money, spend it as you'd like.

Tired of crossfire issues. Overclocked it can match a 980 witch is only a 10% decrease in terms of performance compared to a 7990 with crossfire working.

I agree a 970 is a very good choice. It can be overclocked to match a stock 980 and uses VERY little power. Basically the best bang/buck GPU there is right now.

I do agree with you tiny voices, but i would not go from a 7990 to it, i personally could not justify the cost for really no performance upgrade. The op clearly has the capability to power a 7990 since he already has one.

You get alot of other upgrades though. Less than half the power usage and WAY less total heat produced. Plus Nvidia drivers are generally better than AMD. (not a fanboy. I have AMD cards right now in my PC and I agree CF is pain sometimes).

The 7990 only performs better if crossfire scales for me. In most cases it doesn't scale well.

I agree the 970 is a great card, especially with overclocking. got a waterblock on mine and it shoots past reference 980 performance like nothing. However, since I am on a 1440p monitor the vram issues do occasionally affect me
