I am having a problem consistently maintaining access to my hard drive within an HD Caddy.
• I just installed my new hard drive caddy to replace my cd/dvd rom drive.
• The Caddy is, DBPOWER SATA 2.5" / 9.5mm 2nd Hard Disk Drive Caddy Adapter.
• I installed the OLD HDD into the caddy (Seagate ST500LT012-1DG142).
• The OLD HDD was the original HD that the laptop came with.
• I replaced the OLD HDD with a KINGSTON SV300S37/A240G SSD.
• This SSD works without any issue.
• The old HDD worked without any issue.
• I plugged the old HDD into my desktop to test it out, and it works without issue (files can be transferred to and from it; it can be formatted (Quick and Normal); and partitions can be managed).
• When I put the OLD HDD into the caddy and boot up the laptop—no problems.
• When I try to format the OLD HDD in the laptop, it always fails before the format can finish.
• When I successfully format the OLD HDD in my desktop PC, and migrate it over to my Laptop, I cannot transfer files to it on my laptop, or create new folders, and etc.
• Now for a miracle.
• *Voodoo/Miracle* The OLD HDD works perfectly fine for a day or two in my laptop within the HD CADDY.
• Now it doesn’t work.
• When it doesn’t work the error I get when transferring files is, “Error 0x8007045D: the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error”
• I’m guessing it’s going to work on and off forever at this rate, but I don’t know why.
• It’s works today now.
Thank you.
