Hello, this is my first post here, I hope Im posting in the right place. Anyway, my problem is after installing new RAM my computer crashes to BSOD. I'll give you some specs of what I have.
Motherboard = GIGABYTE GA-MA785G-UD3H
CPU = AMD Phenom II x4 830 2.80GHz
GPU = AMD Radeon HD 7850 OC Version 2GB
PSU = Apevia 800 Watt
HDD = 2 x 1TB
Case = Apevia X Sniper 2
Ok, so I was running 4 sticks of RAM before and it worked fine. My old RAM is:
2x1GB Silicon Power DDR2 667 CL5 1G
&
2x1GB Nanya DDR2 PC2 - 5300U 555 12 E1
It ran fine , no problems at all, but I wanted to upgrade so I bought 16GB of new ram:
4x4GB Samsung DDR2 800MHz PC2 6400U 666 12 E3
It booted 1 time but crashed to BSOD instantly after entering my password. I set the timing to 6-6-6-12 and voltage is on auto as Im sure thats 1.8V and it auto set to 800MHz...... am I right in doing this? Because....... I tested and used each RAM stick on its own and they all worked fine. I then stuck 2 sticks in slots 1 and 2 and it runs fine also. Then i put in a 3rd stick , it booted but while loading start-up items it crashed to BSOD. And with 4 sticks of 4GB in it will not boot.
I have read alot of people saying they are having problems with gigabyte boards and using 4 sticks of RAM , but then why did my system work fine with 4x1GB but not 4x4GB ?
Im currently using 2 of the Samsung sticks for 8GB, so how would I get it to be able to use all 4 to get 16GB? My motherboard specs say it allows 4x1.8v RAM up to 16GB so Im not sure what the problem is. Any kind of help would be very much appreciated. Thank you.
(Update) Calvin7 , thank you. I did some digging around and also found that out , lowered my speed to 667MHz and now its working good. As for the other answer, thank you also but I dont know much at all about overclocking. And in my BIOS upping the DRAM volatge +0.07 is flashing red, like its telling me not to do it. So do you think 8GB @ 800MHz is better or 16GB @ 667MHz is better? I use this comp mostly for gaming, games like BF3 / Alien Isolation / Far Cry 3 / Alan Wake / Crysis 1-3. All play excellent and I do get 50 - 60 FPS in all. Except BF3 when Im online, drops to 40 sometimes in full servers. And also Far Cry 4 will not play on my system , lags out and crashes.
