Current PC specs:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad-Core Processor, 2.40 GHz
RAM: 3 Gigs ddr2
Chipset Intel G33
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT over-clocked 512 MB on board video memory
Hard Drive: 500 GB

PC I would upgrade to:
AMD A6-7400K 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor
Asus A78M-E Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Budget is very tight $300-$400

I agree with velutch, if you have a look at the Toms hierarchy chart your current Q6600 is only one 'tier' below the A6 you're looking at: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html

How many RAM slots do you have? If you have 4, it might be worth picking up a 2x2GB kit taking you to 7GB RAM.

Priority upgrade for sure is the video card, however anything decent will likely require a new Power supply as well. Post the make and model of your power supply if you need some advice.

There are still a bunch of R9 280s kicking around Newegg. Both MSI and Sapphire have solid cards for $170 after MIR. You will need a decent power supply for one of these. You also may find yourself CPU bottlenecked in a few...

If you're upgrading the Powersupply, you could also grab an aftermarket cooler and overclock your Q6600. That'd squeeze an extra bit of life out of it.

If you want a cheaper option you could just grab a 750ti, which should run just fine on your current powersupply. That's also a better match for your CPU. It's just that with those r9 280s going for only $50 more, and offering miles better performance, i'd be tempted with that route: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1130?vs=1332

Thats great news! Thanks for the fast replies guys appreciate it. So I opened the old girl up and it has a Nvidia gtx 210 graphics card, forgot my friend upgraded it before I got it 2 years ago, lol. Im still pretty sure I would like to get one of the graphics cards you mentioned. Also It had two 1 gig sticks, a 2 gig stick, and a 512 stick of ram. I took the 512 out and replaced it with a 2 gig stick I had laying around due to my other comps hard drive dying yesterday. Again Thanks :)

Sounds like you're good to go. Those GT 210s are incredibly slow, anything in the order of a GTX 750ti is going to be night and day difference.

If you're happy tinkering, it might be worth taking out the 1GB stick, and putting those 2x2GB sticks on separate channels. You might just get "dual channel" working, if the RAM sticks are similar enough. I'd take 4GB dual channel (a little faster) over 5GB single channel myself. If it doesn't run in dual channel mode (you can check in the BIOS), chuck the extra 1GB back in.

Good luck.
