I just got hold of a replacement HP motherboard for the above laptop and found out that the BIOS has a password set on it and the seller of the board doesn't know the password. Is there any way I can either access the password information or reset/clear it?

Oh, and just in case someone says 'Try removing the CMOS battery for an hour or so', have already tried and no such luck on this HP model. I have also tried some BIOS 'reader' but nothing as of yet.

Thats the second thing I tried to do that but as far as I can see there is no CMOS reset jumper or pins on the board and havent been able to find a manual that will show me a board layout. Another thing I have tried is the 'master' or 'back-door' password (HP Compaq got rid of that years ago).

I will try the CMOS battery idea again, just in case I missed something but I very much doubt without HP's help there is nothing I can do for now (Already sent them a email stating the issue). I love the laptop as a way of doing my work out and about so getting rid of it isnt something I would want to do lightly.

Remove the CMOS battery and start the computer. The computer will not start. And then install the battery again. ... I hope this helps. ... Because I'm some cases I found that even after removing the battery the bios don't lose its data. ... so. ....
