Hey everyone,

I just placed an order on the new Alienware 15. How is the quality/durability of the laptops in general. I have a macbook pro which I got 3 years back, it has no problems whatsoever and is still running awesome. I spent 2300$ on Alienware, so can I expect it to serve me well for another 4 years? I have been reading reviews of people having hardware failure in the first month and full system failure in one year. Most of these guys keep their laptops running 24/7. But I am still nervous...funny right? You spend 2.3K on a laptop and nervous about not expecting the quality...

NOTE: I clean my laptop every month and use it not more than 4 hours a day because I have a macbook pro...so work will be shared between the two.

Solution
Its made by Dell

I recommend getting Asus, MSI or Lenovo in that oder. I further recommend steering clear of Dell or HP - there's lots of problems and very poor after sales service eg info on how to repair them, upgrade them or even what's in them to start with.

Hopefully you'll be fine.

The thing is that, I have a friend working in Alienware Sales so he told that the new product line has a high quality testing standard and told if I took care of the system, it will take care of me...haha...thats why I had ordered it in the first place.
Also about Asus and MSI, they have only the 17' versions with the gtx980m thats why I went with Alienware. Also the 15' systems of MSI like GS60 etc.. have lots of heating issues due to size. I take care of my systems really well...thats why I posted the question. And I feel Lenovos Y50 is underpowered and also has heating issues (read in a forum all about it) but it has a good keyboard...

Ofc not...haha....but I ordered since I know someone within Alienware, it would be easier for me to approach incase anything happens. I still do not know about the quality of the hardware but I very well know the materials used in making the laptop is high end (Machined aluminum and carbon-fibre).

Yes I know Alienware is subsidiary of Dell. 7-8 years back Alienware used to make....'ALL GAMERS WANT' type mobile gaming machines and then Asus,MSI,Razer etc...came along the way as great competitions. And then everyone had lots of options. I was a hardcore Apple lover, but then it became a common mans brand. Got bored of seeing it. Then got couple of friends having MSI,Asus etc...so I went with something different. Yes their after sales services are really bad especially in the US. But I am living in Australia so I used the online chat system in the Australias Alienware website to order mine and my agent/friend gave me 400$ off and a free upgrade to a 500gb ssd/1 TB hard drive. So I got a system worth much more for a lesser price especially including the high tax and get price in Australia.
So i am expecting to get what I paid for.

Well the configuration they gave me was,

Intel® Core™ i7-4710HQ (Quad-Core, 6MB Cache, up to 3.5GHz w/ Turbo Boost) | 16GB Dual Channel DDR3L | NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 980M with 4GB GDDR5 | 15.6 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS-Panel Anti-Glare | 512GB M.2 SSD (Boot) + 1TB 5400RPM (Storage)

This came at 3,227 AUD or 2500 USD but they gave it for 2800 AUD or 2175 USD

The newer Alienwares aren't bad, and the prices are pretty legit. The ability to use an eGPU is also pretty handy for gaming at home if you only have a laptop. The price you paid is also pretty reasonable for a big brand like Alienware.

What sort of warranty did you get with it?

I got one year software and hardware warranty and one month full system replacement.

Also I checked out the new Asus G-751 with the same configuration as I ordered except it comes with 24GB ram and it was priced at around 4000 AUD or 3106 USD which is VERY expensive. Alienware is not overpriced anymore, especially when you can ask for huge discounts its a plus.

In the US it isn't too bad. You can put together a Clevo rig for ~$1650 with a GTX 980M. It isn't going to stack up to Asus RoG quality or anything, but it has good specs for the price. Assuming that someone was trying to get one at the lowest price possible.

Exactly the Alienware has the 2 huge fans on it to get rid of it i have the Alienware 17 from 2014 with the 860m and have overclocked the processer to 4.0ghz and temputure is staying at 75c and it is the intel i74710mq. I have the 860m overclocked to it is running battlefield 4 at ultra settings at a steady 60 to 70fps and the gpu's temp does not go over 71c so beat that you msi and asus fanboys. If you do not believe me I will send you my 3dmark results.

That's nothing substantial. You'd be able to do the same if not better with an Asus G75x. The new Alienwares really aren't bad though. It's the older ones that are piles of garbage. It seems as Asus RoG laptops started to win people over that they had a delayed reaction in stepping up their game to compete. They do pretty well now, but in most 17.3" cases I'd still much rather take the Asus.

However in the 15.6" realm, the Alienware 15 fares very well with its ~7hr battery life and IPS display.
