Internet access by WiFi network member

Before ripping apart my existing setup I thought I ask here: Can internet access be provided by a router acting as a member of a WiFi network, rather than the WiFi network creator?

Maybe my short question was not clear enough, so here is a little more detail:

I have a three router WiFi network. One of which is also a modem for the incoming internet connection. It is also acting as the WiFi network creator. The other two acting as WiFi network participants or extenders.

Thus far I have only ever run a network where the router directly connected to the modem acts as the WiFi network creator. For a reason, I won't go into detail about it would be preferable if the WiFi network would be created by one of the other two routers and the one with direct access to the internet would join the network AND provide it with access to the internet.

But dose that work? I'd rather would't spending an hour or two finding out that the answer is NO!
Thank you in advance!

Thank you for the link.
Unfortunately the modem/router provided by the ISP dose not allow it to be set up as a WiFi network participant. So I will not be able to test for my network setup of choice.
