So, I have a Toshiba Satellite L675-01P laptop with following specs:

Intel Pentium P6000 @1.86Ghz
3GB DDR3 RAM
Intel HD Graphics
320GB HDD, and so on.

The thing is, my processor seems to be very slow, and barely handles multiple programs at once, so I wish to upgrade it to a better one, as I have read that I actually could change the CPU, because my laptop has a Socket G1.

So can you confirm it? Can I really change the CPU of my laptop, because when I found out, I though that was just plain BS.
And if it is true, are there any better CPUs that you can recommend me? For daily usage, mid-to heavy multitasking, Photoshop?? Thanks in advance!

Hi

I have never heard of a refurbished CPU being available.
Only Intel or AMD could refurbish a CPU
It probably means a second hand cpu which may or may not have been tested or seen working
You occasionaly see refurbished hard drives which had minor faults repaired by the manufacturer

you have to look at the specification for the CPU to see what the maximum power is
You also see what cpu models the bios of that motherboard supports.

If there is a range of Toshiba L6xx models with Pentium, I3 & I5 mobile processors look up which i3 & i5 were used

If you friend has these skills you should ask him for advice about the choice of upgrading the laptop or replacing it

Hi

It seems the standard p6000 fits a pga988 socket so could be upgraded to a i3 or i5 mobile cpu
But would it be economic to do so, probably not especially if you want a new or guaranteed cpu

You may need a new cooling system if the cpu has a higher maximum power ratting Than 35 watts

Do you have the skill to dismantle the laptop case to get to the thermal cooling system, remove it then remove the CPU then reverse the process
Labour to do the job would be expensive

To speed things up without going to those extremes
You should check how many background programs are running
Some of the many Toshiba utilities can be turned off or uninstalled

There are a number of programs which do a better job than ms config in controlling startup processes which are using the processor and ram

Autoruns was updated recently and is now from Microsoft who hired the experts from sysinternals

Well, I have upgraded my laptop to Windows 8.1 and I have no Toshiba Utilities installed anymore, so I guess I don't have anything else to do.

Unfortunately, I don't have skills in changing CPUs or anything - I have only added RAM and changed GPU for my desktop. That's it :D
But I have a friend, who is really good at this stuff, he is repairing laptops for his 2nd job. So, probably, I will ask him to do this.

And, for example, If I take an i5-560M processor, will I see significant improvements in performance? And last, is buying a refurb CPU from eBay is going to be safe? Maybe I should just scrap this plan...:??: I'm not sure about this anymore...

You would notice an improvement in speed but you will also need to upgrade the ram as 3 gigs is not really enough to run photoshop well. Also make sure that the cooling is sufficient as the i5 uses a lot more power which can cause you laptop to overheat. It is probably better to get a new laptop as it will be cheaper unless you friend can help you with this.
