I am working on making a part list for my friend who wants to build a new computer for himself. The games he wants to play are Minecraft, Dayz and other AAA Titles like BF4 Crysis etc. He wont be doing any rendering, video editing or streaming. Mainly I was just looking for some feed back on the build and if there was anything that should be changed. I made a different thread before this but the build has been changed a lot so I though I might as well make another one. Here is the list link: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/JdogAwesome/saved/qYJqqs

EDIT: Also he doesnt like to close stuff so usually he has quite a few programs running.

Looks good to me. I'd rather an i5 over an i7 as I feel the i7 is a waste of money. With the money saved on an i5 you could get 16GBs of RAM or a bigger SSD or a better case such as the Phanteks Enthoo Pro.

I was speeking with him about that but he really likes the i7 and he might do some video editing and stuff in the future. About the case he really likes the case and hes going for a Blue design. The SSD is really only for boot up and some minor programs so not really a big deal there either. Also do you really think he would need 16GB of RAM if hes mainly only playing video games and 8GB is usually enough i think.

He might in the future get get a 4K monitor then dual SLI another 970 so yeah.

if he plans on encoding, video and 3d editing and running a bunch of stuff in the background then you would want 16Gb of ram but if it is mainly going to be a gaming pc then 8Gb is plenty if he is going to do a little of everything the 16 or 12Gb will do him good

I suggested the i5 because in the OP you said he won't do rendering or editing. The i7 still won't justify performance for it's price, in my opinion. 8GB of RAM is definitely enough, but I noticed you mentioned Minecraft in the OP. Believe it or not, modding Minecraft is ridiculously RAM intensive. A bigger SSD will be useful to put his most played games on, it will significantly reduce loading times. Some games are 55GB+ now so if he wanted faster loading times on that game, it would eat up half of his SSD.

Wow thats an awesome build but SLI 970's is kinda overkill for a 1080p screen I would think. Also he wants a Liquid cooler because he might overclock and uhh yeah water cooler...

The Evo should get the CPU to 4.2GHz give or take. The Z97-A also has an auto-overclocking feature which has proven to be almost as good as manual overclocking. So you could overclock with the click of a button. Water cooling is way more expensive for an additional 0.3GHz. SLI 970 is over-kill for a 1080p monitor but if he ever upgrades to a 4k monitor or 3-way 1080p monitors he will be prepared.

In that case, your original build is basically spot-on. If he wants to try x99, there's this:

In the case he picked I think watercooling will prove an issue, I just put a case on this build to fill in the price. He can look at others he likes. Although the H440 is a beautiful case and will do the job.

Wow that build is awesome! Though does he really need the 5820k like I already thought the 4790k was overkill isnt that to much? I do like that board and the RAM though ill speak with him about it. That case is really cool looking so I think he will be a fan of that as well. Thanks so much for your help man :) (I can tell you like the Asus STRIX 970 XD)

4790k actually performs about the same as the 5820k. Problem is, 4790 is for the 1150 socket. The 5930/5960 is too expensive for your budget so that only leaves the 5820 if you wanted an x99/LGA 2011-3 build.

I love ASUS products, but I think the STRIX is the cheapest 970 which is why I picked it.
I think everyone loves the H440! Why wouldn't you? It's beautiful!
EDIT: By the looks of things, you have to pay an additional $14.99 for shipping on that case, which isn't included in the price. Sorry :/

Well do you think I need an x99/LGA Build or is the 4790k fine? Also this is the build he will probably get, http://pcpartpicker.com/user/JdogAwesome/saved/qYJqqs Do you think its really necessary to get that NZXT case or will that Tesseract case get the job done?

EDIT: The NZXT H440 Doesnt have any external bays so that wont really work unless it was jerry rigged inside it somehow.

x99 builds are more efficient and more powerful, generally. But the 4790k build is just as good. Less room for upgrading in the future but he won't need to upgrade for years anyways. As for the case, the H440 is expensive including the shipping. However, I think the Tesseract will make squeezing the H100i in difficult.

I didn't realise you needed an optical bay -_-. By the way, is there a particular reason you/he is not going for the x99 build? As for the case, does it have to be blue? The Fractal Design R4 is only $80 at the moment. That is an unbeatable price.

I was looking at some pics of the Tesseract online and I think well be able to squeeze it in there(hopefully).

Well I guess he doesnt need an Optical bay but it would be good to have one. I guess he could go for the x99 build but its just a decent amount more money and plus he isnt going to be doing much rendering/editing. My friend is the kinda guy who really likes the way things look so yeah probably it does have to be blue -_-. The R4 is cool looking but its not blue soooo yeah. Thanks for all your help!

So we switched the case to a NZXT S340 Mid Tower Case which he likes a lot. It doesn't have any external bays but hes going to get a USB Disc Drive just for exceptions for when you actually need a disc. For the NZXT Hue LED Controller I guess we will just put that in the case somewhere XD.
