I have two Corsair Vengeance 8gb (2x4gb) sticks installed on my motherboard. As seen in the title my computer is only recognizing 4gb from each stick. I know this because I tested each stick individually in each RAM slot and each time I came up with 4gb, unless I placed them both in unison slots (A1/B1,A2/B2), in which I had 8gb. In total I believe should have 16gb and I believe my motherboard supports this.
Mobo: asus m5a99x Evo R2.0
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit
I haven't tried updating the BIOS or testing the memory but those will be some of my next steps.
Some more context: When I built my PC I installed Windows 7 (this was about 8 months ago) , I don't remember if at that time my 16gbs were recognized. I received another hard drive for Christmas. I didn't know what to do with it so I decided I'd install Ubuntu on it. I installed Ubuntu and eventually came to the conclusion that I wrote over the Windows Master Boot Loader with Linuxes Grub Boot Loader so I had to either perform start-up repair on the Windows 7 HDD or perform a a clean OS install. I decided on the latter and installed Windows 8.1. It was after I installed Windows 8.1 that I noticed this problem. My computer started to shut down as if it couldn't handle me downloading games on steam while watching Netflix. I never had these issues with Windows 7. So I searched around and found that my 16gbs were not being recognized.
I'm going to go ahead and assume my motherboard might need to be replaced but I figured I'd provide some context in case the issue is simpler.
You guy are the best.
