Hey everybody. I just built my computer and got Windows 8 installed. I discovered that my PC wont recognize or read any CDs or DVDs. It has power going to it and makes noise like it is trying to read. The optical drive shows up in Device Manager and My Computer.

I tried the filters thing in the registry, but there weren't any of the problem filters that need to be deleted.

I also tried deleting the drive and restarted, cleared CMOS - no luck.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I installed the Asrock drivers for my motherboard, but that didn't work. I noticed an A2 error when booting up, so maybe there is something wrong with SATA.

I have changed which port it is connected to with no success. My SSD and HDD are both functioning normally and connected to the SATA ports.

If this helps, I have:
Asrock z97 Extreme6
Core i-5 4690k
8 GB Ram
Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 970
Asus DRW-24F1ST (Optical drive)

Well, I fixed the optical drive problem. I unhooked all of the SATA devices, cleared the CMOS and turned it on. Went to BIOS and them restarted it with all of the SATA devices connected. BAM! Optical drive is working and I was able to install all of the drivers on the discs that came with my hardware.

The A2 error still pops up when I boot though. Everything seems to be working fine though.
