Just installed the ASUS direct cu ii OC R9 290 and suddenly when I alt tab from SC2 or D3 it takes forever! It takes about one and a half times as long to alt tab back into the game than it does to alt tab out.

Does this have anything to do with the Raptr thing from amd or is it just a drawback of amd cards.. or what's the deal. I have the newest drivers.

Or is my card broken? I have two displays connected to the two dvi ports on the gpu. When i alt tab in or out tab out or load into the game, both display will keep flashing black as if changing resolutions and the mouse cursor will appear and disappear on the black screens, and the screens will flash to desktop then to black or to another shade of black and do that like 3 or 4 times. before finally getting me to the window i want. I am using 1080p for the game and outside of game on my desktop.

I am only using one monitor to run the game but my desktop is extended. My game is on fullscreen mode. I am trying desperately to switch it to windowed (fullscreen) as that may fix this problem, but i can't even do that because there is the confirmation box countdown you get when changing resolutions asking if you want to keep these settings runs out before it let's me input any commands.

like while the screen flashes at the very end i'll see the timer is already at 6seconds left and it'll flash a few more times stuck on that same frame. then i guess because it times out, it spends another minute to change back to the original resolution.

sigh. help. thanks OTL

Unless you are alt tabing while recording, it doesn't have anything to do with Raptr. If you don't use Raptr, uninstall it.

"I am only using one monitor to run the game but my desktop is extended."

It might be a good idea to quickly test if the same issue happens when you don't have that 2nd screen plugged in.

One last thing, if you didn't already, you should always clean out old drivers before installing new ones. It should go ....

(*Note, the following is best done is safe mode)

-> Uninstall old drivers
-> Run driver cleaning software (like "display driver uninstaller")
-> Restart system
-> Install new drivers
-> Restart system
-> Done

uninstalled... raptr. the alttabbing problem stopped. now it only does the black screen thing once then goes to the right screen albiet it is still slower then the gtx 260 doing it.

However now i have a new problem. according to hwmonitor and msi afterburner my gpu utilization is stuck at 100% when im not doing anything.

this is so weird.

what's the best program that can show what is using what on ur system? like can show you the load and also which program is causing the load. for hard drive usage/cpu usage/gpu etc. hwmonitor/msi afterburner can't seem tell me what is actually doing the usage, but im a noob with those programs there may be some options some where but i can't find it.

and it went away after i restarted. sigh OTL. and the alt tabbing got super fast same speed as gtx 260 now.

and...problems again. what the heck. stuck at 100% utilization. again and it just crashed in the middle of my sc2 game. the game ran fine when i still had raptr installed. what is this? amd trying to get back at me for uninstalling their crapware.!!!!!!!

Don't use 3rd party software to measure GPU usage. It's natural for Nvidia users to default to using 3rd party software but AMD cards have it built in and it's very good.

In the catalyst control center there should be an amd overdrive tab that will let you see GPU utilization. If that is showing high GPU utilization, check your task manager. If it's a rouge process, it's either going to be taking allot of memory or CPU.
