I have an HP Envy 15. I bought a laptop cooler like a year ago due to overheating. Not going to lie, I used to abuse this thing by playing tons of games on it but have stopped for months. However CPU temps idle at 65-70C and go as high as 100C (at this point the fan pumps into overdrive). Usually Around 80-90C is the average. The laptop has never shut off on me but it can be VERY loud.

How can I lower these speeds. Is it possible to reseat the heatsink with new thermal paste and will that help? Or is that just a desktop thing? Should I look into replacing the fan or is that not a simple process?

Edit: I was using Speccy to check these temps and realized that the APU + GPU temps are pretty much combined. Using CoreTemp and SpeedFan and see I'm idleing around 30C. However the fan's still get pretty loud. Going to try to re-adjust fan speeds or something.

Sometimes thermal paste can dry out and crack off if it's applied wrongly, that may be why the temps are so high but also for any laptop PC gaming will always need a laptop cooler to keep temps in the OK range.
