I really like windows 7 and i am very happy with it for day to day use , but i have 2 SSD drives one with my games on , will windows 8 improve my gaming performance with higher FPS .

I was thinking perhaps install windows 8.1 on my crucial drive along with all my games until at least i become happy and confident that windows 8.1 is really for me , as i find using windows 8.1 on other peoples systems a bit of a chore , in fact i think it would at least for a week or so , send me totally nuts.....as i use windows 7 for day to day work...so i am thinking of keeping both presently.

My system is :-

AMD8350
16GB 1866 ram
280x graphics
840 evo ssd 250
550 crucial SSD 512

Advice please :)

You will find there is little to no difference in the fps between the two OS's, it is simply a matter of personal preference as to which you go to, seeing as both of them can be upgraded for free to win 10 when it comes out and then you have dx12

Windows 8.1 is barely faster than Windows 7 in the fps department. If you already have Windows 7 and are happy with it, I wouldn't bother changing until 10.

The biggest advantage I had noticed by going from 7 to 8 is the improved boot times and the much better task manager. While I don't hate metro, I agree with most people that the start menu sucks and a 3rd party program is needed (as well as a little configuring to not use metro apps like media player as the default). From the beta of 10 I've been testing, those issues look to be resolved.

i switched about a year ago and ran 3d mark before and after. i dont remember the exact numbers but i was getting 9% to 15% better FPS on windows 8.1.
So to answer your question YES gaming will be improved.
and honestly windows 8.1 is awesome. just look up some guides on how to make it look like win 7. (boot into desktop mode, start button ect.)
and maybe upgrading will prep you for win 10 witch is predicted to have drastic increases to gaming performance.
