Hey guys, was hoping you could help me out.

Basically I have a laptop which is connected to the internet via its "wi-fi" and is connected to my desktop pc via a direct ethernet cable. What I want to do is to share the internet on my laptop with my desktop pc.

So the problem is that the connection between my desktop pc and laptop is "unidentified" because of which internet sharing is not possible.I can access shared files from between the desktop and laptop but the connection unidentified.

When running the network troubleshooter on both the desktop and laptop, I get the same error that "ethernet does not have a valid ip configuration". Don't really know what that means.

I have already set the internet on my wifi adapter to shared.

Thanks in advance

THanks for the response,

Unfortuantely I don't know much about networking but after googling a bit I did this:

in ipv4 settings for ethernet adapter, changed the following settings:

laptop:
Ip address: 192.168.1.89
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway: 192.168.1.1

Prefferred dns: 206.196.151.153
aleternate dns: empty

desktop:
ip address: 192.168.1.93
rest the same

but still no luck. Can you guide me a bit?

Also had to change the dns for this to 172.16 otherwise it was giving me an error. But still no luck, though the error has changed. Now it says: "The default gateway is not available"

Try the 172-address of the laptop as the gateway for the pc. Gateway for the laptop is it's 192-address (I think)
