Large games like battlefield take many, many people, in many different disciplines.

Game engine
artwork
storyline
QA
Testing
....

A team of 100 people, a year or two.
For instance...the seemingly simple Angry Birds. A team of 20...several months. For people already experienced in mobile design.

Computer Science is a good place to start
Or artistry
Or testing

What part do you want to make? And what are you good at?

Thanks for some answers you guys. The only thing i would really wanna do would create the characters and the maps and maybe the guns but anything else not interested. I kinda have one idea i want to do for a game if i do decide to pursue this career. And it would be hard as hell to make a game to outbeat battlefield or cod, lol but its a challenge i would try. thanks for some answers i appreciate it!

Making a game is not as much fun as it looks, and that level of graphics takes a lot of work to do.
As a lone developer you could make small games like Uplink: Hacker Elite(just an example).
Large games would require many years to make even for a team of say 50 people.
