Hello everyone,

I have a few quick questions regarding adding additional RAM to my system.

First, here are my PC specs;

Processor: Intel i7-4790K 4.0GHz
(Turbo up to 4.4GHz)
Processor Core: Quad-Core
Cooling Method: Fan
Memory: 8GB DDR3-1600
Max Memory: 32GB
Memory Slots: 4
Graphics: AMD Radeon R9-280X 3GB
Video Ports: (2) DVI; (1) HDMI; (1) DisplayPort
Hard Drive: 256GB SSD
Optical Drive: 24x DVDRW
Network: 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet
Wireless: Yes
Bluetooth: Yes
Front Ports: (2) USB 3.0
(1) Headphone/Microphone
Rear Ports: (4) USB 3.0
(4) USB 2.0
(1) D-Sub + DVI
(1) HDMI
(6) Audio 5.1 + Mic
Expansion Slots/Bays: (1) PCI Express x16 slot (occupied)
(1) PCI Express x4 slot (occupied)
(2) PCI Express x1 slots (available)
(3) PCI Slots
(3) 5.25" Drive Bays (available)
(6) 3.5" Drive Bays (available)
(6) 2.5" Drive Bays (1 occupied)

Now, the system has a single 8gb stick of RAM in it, with three slots open. It supports up to 32gb. While 8gb is satisfactory for the gaming that I do, I'd like to throw in some more for the video editing that I do (even just video stabilization takes forever to process for the paintball videos I produce). I'd like to throw in two more 8 gig sticks, for a total of 24gb. This should be more than enough for what I need. My questions are as follows;

Question 1; Could there potentially be an issue if the two new sticks are not the same brand as the one already installed?

Question 2; As the system takes DDR3-1600, does anyone have any recommendations (that aren't ridiculous with price)?

I'm sure I'll be able to easily find a guide on how to properly install it, so that takes care of my third question.

Thank you for your time!

Solution
Get a 2x8GB set, if looking for 1600 then take a look at the GSkill Snipers or Ripjaws X in 1600/9, as far as the old DRAM - even if you bought the same exact model of DRAM there would be no guarantee the sticks would play with your old one. If the old doesn't like the new ones and won't play, give me a shout and we can try some adjustments to get all three to play if possible

I was about to get very frustrated, after searching the spec sheet for ten minutes without finding what motherboard it uses, then I remembered that I have a transparent side of the case. I can see the motherboard.

I have a Gigabyte GA-Z97-D3H motherboard; http://www.modders-inc.com/gigabyte-z97-d3h-motherboard-review/ (The review includes a spec list)

I've heard that since it's a dual channel, if I put the two new sticks in the other channel, they shouldn't conflict. Is that true? Unfortunately, I don't believe I can find out the make/model of my current stick without tearing the PC down.

to my knowledge there are black and white ram slots on the ga-z97-d3h. when you buy your ram you should get an 8x2 so that they are the same type. Whether your current ram is in black or white, just put the new ram in the different color
