If I get a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO how much can I overclock i5-4690K

There are a lot, lot more variables than your cpu cooler when it comes to overclocking. You haven't help matters any by basically giving no residual information. Like all the hardware that makes up your rig.

When overclocking it also depends on the silicon lottery, if you have a crappy CPU, it may only get 300mhz at the max safe voltage, so you have to take into account your CPU, it's pretty much luck of the draw, so don't set any expectations, so then if you do lose the lottery, it's not a disappointment, and then if you win, it's a surprise. My FX 8350 isn't top notch, only reaching 4.7Ghz before reaching the max, but I didn't set any goals or expectations, so I am perfectly happy with my overclock. Good luck!

I would go to overclockers.com or overclock.net and ask there. There may be some guides or threads for your particular cpu or board.

That's not his/her question. You CAN overclock anything as high as you want! He/she wants to know how much he/she can overclock their i5.

Hardly. You talked to him about the "silicon lottery". People at those forums would actually be able to give him firsthand information about what he may be able to achieve.

The silicon lottery means exactly what he/she can achieve! There is NO EXACT RATIO/NUMBER THAT CAN DETERMINE WHAT OVERCLOCK ANY PERSONS CAN ACHIEVE WITH A COOLER MASTER HYPER 212 EVO AS WELL AS ANY OTHER COOLER. GIVING SOMEONE A NUMBER THAT THEY CAN ACHIEVE WITH SUCH COOLER IS FALSE INFORMATION SINCE THE SILICON LOTTERY DETERMINES WHAT OVERCLOCK YOU CAN ACHEIVE BEFORE THERMAL MARGINS ARE MET. Although, an average number can be given so around 4.3Ghz can most likely be achieved, that being at Prime95 stable. Sorry for the caps but I had to outline the terms. Go to overclock.net if you really want specialized information but this is all I can tell you and it is all anyone else can tell you.
