Hi guys,

I currently run 8gb of 2x4gb DDR3 1600 mhz RAM via dual channel and my computer seems to starving for memory. I have two more slots on my motherboard and I was wondering can i install 16gb (2x8gb DDR3) 1600 mhz RAM and run 24 gb?

A definite MAYBE - there are no guarantees when mixing sets of DRAM, it's a crapshoot, they might play they might not. Even if you got an exact set of the same DRAM you already have, it's still a maybe yes, maybe no thing. The myth of they will all run at the slowest speed of the sticks goes back to DDR and DDR2, and even then wasn't always true. It's far more difficult for sticks to play these days with the plethoria of different DRAM chips being used on sticks, different densities, different rank makeups, most use XMP some don't, etc. DRAM is sold in packaged sets as those in a set are all tested to work together. You could go right to the assembly line and pull 4 consecutive sticks off and chances are good all 4 won't play together.
