hi... m trying to install wondows 7 by a new DVD. its taking forever on 'expanding windows files'........ help....

Chuck the drive into another Pc as a secondary drive and format it, use rufus to build a bootable usb of your chosen os (file available from Microsoft website) and enable boot from usb on the pc you wish to install it on, put hdd back in pc and when you turn it on it should install in about 20 mins, youll still need to activate using your genuine key of course

Well..the original issue may have been a dying drive.
Trying to install a new OS won't fix that.

Why was the Windows 8 stuck in 'attempting repairs' loop ?

I've had a couple of 8 machines and had issues getting 7 on, one I currently have I partitioned and shrunk 8 to min size possible, my old netbook I just put drive on main pc through usb and wiped/installed as above, hell of a lot easier hehe,
Couldn't say on the original loop issue cause but reading between the lines I'd suspect Pebcak somewhere along the lines :)

Thanx everybody. .... did wait for an hour and got windows 7 installed. .....
@USAFret i don't know what was the problem with windows 8.... it just got stuck... i tried different ways but of no use.... you can search 'windows 8 attempting repairs loop'...
