I have win xp and 4 gb of ram, one day I just turned on my computer and after showing the bios motherboard screen in bootup, it went black, (normal) but then shows the motherboard and keeps repeating. Sometimes after resetting defaults on bios settings it says that there was a disk read error, press ctl alt delete to restart.

I'm no computer
Whizz so please don't make me over clock my motherboard hdd twister ram or something. I have no clue about any of these make it simple please.

UPDATE
Now it just always tells me
'Disk read error occurred. Press Carl alt delete to restart'

If you still have the disk windows came on, try booting from the CD. Just connect the optical drive and put the CD in. It sounds like there is a problem with the HDD. If this works, scan your HDD to check for errors. Right click on it, then properties, then tools, then check.

I do not have the CD it came in, although I will try to find it.
I can't right click onto my HDD becuase, as I said, whenever it tries to boot up it says 'Disk read error occured' and i can't login to windows, I have to press CRL+ALT+DLT to restart the process, where it coms up with the exact same message.
Thanks for the quick reply though. Any other suggestions?

I think you need to find the CD. Maybe you could try putting the HDD into another PC to do what I said. I'm not sure about that, though.

I HAVE A SOLUTION, SO PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, READ:
First, press F8 on the bios motherboard menu thing, (or hold) and a boot startup thing should come up. Then, exit that (The controls are at the bottom of the screen, but i believe it is F4). There should be an error coming up with 'start safe mode, start normally, blah blah blah'. You should see an option saying something along the lines of 'start with last known working settings.' Select that and, WHAZAM! You can be happy, or disappointed cuz it didnt work.
