Hi,

I am trying to install Windows 7 Home Premium on my laptop which I recently upgraded to boast a Kingston v300 SSD. However, when I advance to the drive configuration step I am welcomed by this error:
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk."

Simple and cliché, What do I do?

EDIT: I also want to point out my laptop is a Sony Vaio VPCEB3JOE

Hello,

Have you made sure you are installing the OS in the right drive, (i take it you want to install it on your kingston ssd)

Also another question that may help, have you removed the hard drive from the laptop while installing the o.s?-remember the main hard drive contains a recovery partition that can make you think you are installing it on your drive. Make sure the size of the drive is your ssd.

Hi,

The hard drive of the the laptop died. It was being used by my autie and she had no idea it was happening. Therefore, there is no recovery made of it. The HDD was replaced by the SSD. I would wish to start with a clean install.

I have read somewhere else the solution is change something from SATA to ACTP or something.
However, there is no option in my BIOS to do so.

Thank you in advance.

Yes, I guess you are talking about changing sata settings to be AHCI but that should not matter. OK so I guess you have removed the old hard drive(s) from it.

Microsoft site says :
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

The computer has two or more uninitialized hard disks.
You started the computer by using Windows Vista installation media.

However, you can try on the windows 7 installation setup to make sure you either delete any partitions and then install it there.

There's only one partition showing and that is the SSD.
(Disk 0 Partition 1)

What next?

If the delete action is available (or format) and not greyed out click on it then just select that drive to continue. that should be fine.

(you should end up with one whole partition of about the size of the drive) if there is a partition of few megabaytes ignore it and use the big one.

After both formatting it and deleting it, I still get the error "Windows cannot be installed to Disk 0 Partition 1.
What do I do?

Disk 0 partition 1 should show up if you create manually a partition and it is usually the system reserved partition.- you do not need to create partitions yourself, just install it on the whole drive.
You should end up with 'Disk 0 unallocated space' only

If you still have problems you can also unplug it from the laptop and connect it to another machine and give it a good format.

Make sure you are installing windows from the boot disc or a bootable pen drive

Hi,
Okay, so I made sure it was marked as 'Disk 0 Unallocated Space' and I hit Next. I then get an error saying:
'Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information'.
What do I do?
Also, thank you in advance.

By drive, do you mean the USB (I'm installing via DVD) or the actual SSD?
And still the same error.

yeah if you have any usb drives remove them, otherwise I wouldn't know as this seems to be a funny windows thing, I've done a search on youtube and that seemed to be the cause.I'm sure I had that before. That's me ran out of ideas! hope you get it sorted
