I am a corporate PC Tech needing to get a new personal PC.

My old Dell Studio T435/9000 died, motherboard failure. I did not want to buy and install new motherboard, just take my Win7 x64 hard drive to new PC. I have apps on there that I have no install disks for.

Hard drive is good. I plug it into an Optiplex 990 at work, and aside from minor driver issues, the drive boots up. Old system had Intel X58 Express chipset and Serial ATA -300 storage controller.

I was given a Dell Precision T5610. Drive does not boot from it 0x0000007B error. Dell says it is a disk driver error, drive wll work on a fresh install, but I lose my apps. Not an option.

What is my best option? If I buy a new hard drive, compatible with Serial ATA-600, then clone old drive to it, will drive be able to work with it with no fresh install? Or can I get a box that I can be sure will work with old hard drive.

Thank you!!!!!

You were lucky to be able to boot that hard drive in another system, you can try hooking up the old drive without taking out the main hard drive, so you can boot from the main hard drive, access your old hard drive and see if you can run those apps without having to reinstall them.
