Hey All,

Trying to build my first gaming desktop and was hoping to get some suggestions. Want to be able to play all the blockbuster releases like Battlefield, Everquest Next, etc on high to ultra. I will be using my TV as a monitor and still need to get the keyboard and mouse if you have any suggestions there. Like the build to be accessible to future upgrades in the future as this is my first build.

Looks forward to your suggestions.

Thanks Guys!

Well if your open to spend more then yes this is great you might want a little more wattage though so you can upgrade into the future.

I'd say a 550w XFX psu would do the trick.

This is my current setup and I can run all the games I want at medium to high settings. Would recommend this setup to anyone! Maybe change the case to something that suits you personally. Cheers!

cx psu's arn't great quality, as much as I like mechancial keyboards you can't put a $120 keyboard in this budget. 2 parts missing prices on one build.

If you have a little bit more then I would step up to a 280x but this is what you would want for ultra at 1080p in most games.

What would you say the biggest difference in AMD and Intel for the CPU?

intel makes much higher quality cores and so wins in single threaded applications by a long way. They lag behind in multi threaded applications compared to amd though as amd has much worse single core performance but makes up for it in the amount of cores in the cpu. In game generally intel is better as they sre more single treaded applications but some games like BF4 have started to take advantage of multicore technology. The i3 will still hold up fine in these games though.

Another factor is the upgradablity in intel as with amd if you buy an fx 6300 you dont really have any meaningful upgrades, but with intel you can go all the way to the i7 4790k a top tier cpu.

Thats a good buildd and was originolly what I was thinking but he needs to get a mouse and keyboard in there so no this is well out of his budget.

Thanks for the advice. Both builds look great. I can always get the mouse and keyboard now and then buy everything else in a couple weeks. As far as cases would you recommend a mid or full tower? Also will my 50" Insignia plasma tv work as a monitor?

Yeah but if you do decide to get a monitor then you might need to reinstall the drivers. If you prefer a bigger case go full tower smaller case go mid it really is up to personal preferance.

Thanks for the input. Would said there is a significant difference in the i3 and i5? Is it worth the extra $80?

Yes the cores bring more stable frame rates.

Awesome. Which part would you recommend upgrading first down the road? I plan on getting another monitor and other accessories first.

A midtower is fine. The 230t will suit your needs.

Ignore this reply of mine

A better CPU cooler would lower your noise levels. Make sure that you don't use more than one monitor for gaming at a time with your card.

I like the case I have on there right now and dont want to add an additional $40. The only parts I'm worried about are the Antec 450W power supply and the MSI H97M-G43 Motherboard. Worried the power supply won't be enough and the I read some bad reviews on the motherboard.
