I'd like to start by thanking all those who helped me vet, purchase, and configure my new SSD and HD.
Thanks to you all here, My system is now as follows:

Board: MSI MS - 7640 (890FXA-GD70)
Sys: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1 Build 7600)
Processor AMD Phenom (tm) II X4 965 Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
Memory 16GB RAM
Samsung 850 Pro 256GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-7KE256BW)
Western Digital 3 TB SATA III 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Desktop Hard Drive, Black, WD3003FZEX

Question: how can I get maximum speeds, between my new SSD and my new Sata-III Hard drive?
Any other advice to make my system maximum fast, would be appreciated.
I already turned off a ton of the background services, and did other well-known speed tweaks.

thanks!

What do you want to benchmark? CPU? Gfx Card? SSD? Games?

OC'ing the Phenom II X4 965BE is pretty straight forward. You enter BIOS, raise the CPU clcock multiplier a click at a time, save and exit. Run a stress testing pgm like Intel Burn Test or Prime95 while watching that temps don't get too high (62C is AMD's safe operating temp.) But don't try any serious OC'ing with the stock cooler. It is only designed to handle the CPU at stock.
If all is well, take it up another click. Eventually you will have a unstable result. When that happens you can either back off and live with that, or you can begin tweaking up the CPU's vcore a little at a time until it is stable again. Then maybe you can get the multiplier up some more. I...

I guess I am good to go then if there is no special config for my HD and SSD.
Do you know a good free benchmark program?
Also: what's up with overclocking, (does it really help?) and "unlocking CPU cores"?

Sound like I would be getting into some serious voodoo.
thanks again.

Then maybe you can get the multiplier up some more. I had my Ph II X4 965BE to 4.0GHz with just a tiny increase to the vcore.

OC'ing is more for sport than major benefit. Although it wasn't until mine was at 4.0 GHz, that it no longer bottlenecked my R9-280. So, there's that benefit.

There are no cores to unlock on the PhIIx4 965BE. Some AMD processors from that era were sold with disabled cores, either due to being defective, poor quality, ot even sometimes for marketing reasons. But yours isn't one of them.
