I don't know whether I should get the Intel i5-4690K or the i7 4790.

First of all, thanks in advance for the assistance, I am upgrading my mobo and CPU and I have ordered the ASRock H97 PRO4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard. However, I cannot decide whether I should get the i5 or the i7. The i5 is unlocked but I have never overclocked before and am very weary of the fact that I don't know what I am doing. Whereas on the other hand the i7, while it may be locked and a little more expensive, has hyper threading and also has the max turbo speed of 4Ghz in comparison to the i5s 3.5Ghz and I really don't know what is worth doing? Thanks in advance.

FYI this is for a gaming PC and my current specs are:

Operating System
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1
CPU
AMD A8-6600K
Richland 32nm Technology
RAM
8.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-11-28)
Motherboard
MSI A55M-E33 (MS-7721) (P0)
Graphics
CVTE TV (1600x900@59Hz)
Radeon R9 270X Sapphire 2G Edition
Storage
931GB Seagate ST1000DM003-1CH162 ATA Device (SATA)
Optical Drives
TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-224DB ATA Device
Audio
AMD High Definition Audio Device
Power Supply
Corsair CX600M 600W ATX 80+ Bronze PC Power Supply

You can overclock the i5 and match the speed anyway. i7 is a waste for gaming. Even if you don't overclock you'll still be perfectly fine.

Then again, I have just seen that the i7-4790K isn't much more expensive than the 4790, while it outperforms it in every way and is also unlocked! Now I'm really stuck...

Yeah that's what I thought but I saw the extra Ghz and I questioned whether that made it worth it? Or would I be better off getting an after-market heat sink and learning to overclock?

Brilliant ok then thanks a lot for the info :) I won't be able to reply for few hours now, but do you have any tips for over clocking? You seem to know what you're doing.
