I don't really understand the technology but why do people suggest FX + Discrete Graphics card instead of an APU (Like the latest A10) + Discretre Graphics card.
Why not like a A10+ 290 instead of a FX + 290.
Doesn't dual graphics bring in more graphics potential? The power of two?
Using the APU's GPU for gaming along with a strong GPU doesn't work very well due to how multi-gpu rendering works. If AMD allowed it your rendering speed would be a bit slower than double the APU's GPU speed. As the 290 would be waiting on the APU to finish each of it's rendered scenes or section of a scene. (Most Multi-GPU rendering either works by splitting a scene or alternately drawing scenes one after another hence why you would want GPU's of equivalent or nearly equivalent speeds).
Now given that an APU's GPU could be used for compute purposes, but as of now no current games use the compute capabilities of GPU's in such a way where Intel and/or AMD onboard GPU's would be useful for gaming. Hopefully as HSA capable CPU's become more common we will see them used more especially for gaming purposes.
