Asus MotherBoard / Incorrect RAM Reporting

Hi Guys. Really need some help here. I have an ASUS M51BC that is a little less than a year old. never really payed attention to the memory on this until today. Now I am pulling my hair out. The System monitor says it has 8 gig reserved for hardware. What is that? I have done the following:

Updated to most recent BIOS v0502
ran memory checker on it and with no errors

The weird part is this. Please look at the next 2 screen shots. (I have moved the chips around)

The first shows only 4 gig but another screen in the same bios shows 12??

Notice the installed physical RAM = 12 gig?

How do I fix this? Any suggestions?
