internal asus dvd writer not working windows 8

my friend bought a internal asus dvd writer which he recieved today and connected it to his desktop (win 8), it does not show up in his computer or disk management, however, it opens and closes. he checked it on another computer and it works fine... any suggestions for solution please?

Is it connected to a SATA port that's enabled?

yes.. it was connected to the sata port where his previous dvdrw was connected.. and i also checked it by connecting it to the hard disk sata cable

If it works in another PC and not in his PC, then it's incompatible. Before checking in Windows, is it detected in the BIOS? If so, can he boot from it?

Thank u for your help... The problem was his driver was not installed or somehow he managed to uninstall it..
