So i got it from a friend for 5 dollars, but i just can't really find anything on this. Can someone help me? Is it actually rare or is it just a marketing technique?

I don't know how "rare" it is, but it would probably be considered a sort of collectible. It retails at less than $50 I think, but to the right people it might be worth more. There's an interesting little community of people who collect retro games and consoles that you might want to check out.
