Hello everyone! I would like some help to build a gaming PC. This will be my first time attempting this. I've also seen a few posts about PC's for TERA posted awhile back, and I'd just like an more upgraded one.

Approximate Purchase Date : Late Feb - Early March (2015)

Budget Range : $600 - $800 (Before rebate)

System Usage from Most to Least Important : Gaming (TERA - League of Legends), school work, web surfing, and music listening, watching videos.

Parts Not Required : Keyboard, mouse, monitor - I was planning to grab these from my local area, but suggestions would be helpful though.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts : Neweeg

Country : I'm located in US.

Parts Preferences : Intel would be nice.

Overclocking : No thanks.

SLI or Crossfire : No thanks.

Monitor Resolution : 1920x1080 would be great.

Additional Comments : I always hear that it's cheaper to just build a desktop rather than buying a gaming laptop. Currently I'm playing TERA on a Asus K53E (http://www.asus.com/us/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/K53E/), and I currently play on the lowest graphics + 4:3 screen ratio. Makes me pretty sad, but oh well ha-ha. I'm not to computer smart either. If I'm missing anything important info - let me know, and I can post it up.

I'd prefer Windows 7 too. Not to big of a Windows 8 fan (if this helps with anything; just figured I;d throw it out there.)

dont forget he also needs an operating system thats why I went for the amd instead and also he wants windows 7 over 8 but windows 8 is better optimized for most games thats why I put it on that list because a lot of people get better frame rates in games using 8 or 8.1 instead of 7

For the 2 games he mentioned it is much better to go intel as they are more single thread based.

Umm this is for TERA and LOL you know, the 970 is great but way overkill for this. The 960 is a perfect fit in this for the task and budget, you will get much more noticable performance increase in the pc's usability with an SSD, then the 970 will give in those games.

huh? my build has a better cpu (slightly) and a gtx 970 over a gtx 960, sure it costs $50 more, was just an option for him... I'm not sure how he will get much more noticeable performance increase in the other builds... explain?

EDIT: Ah i see you edited your post and added the SSD... Yea that would be a better build for now if he never plays any other games... He can more easily add a SSD then upgrade to another GPU if he ever needs too. I was just giving options, Yours is a good build too.

This is $20 over budget without rebates but you can drop to an r9 280x if it's pushing your finances a bit too much. I think for the performance the extra $20 is worth it.

Thanks a lot guys! I appreciate the feedback! I'll look at these when I get out of class! I also didn't know Windows 7 /Windows 8 could effect frame rates either, that's interesting.

You'll get a free update to Windows 10 with either OS so don't worry about it too much.

I do think windows 8.1 feels better optimised for modern systems and with free programs like classic shell you can get rid of many of 8.1's more unpopular features!

I use both a lot as my laptop has 7 and desktop 8.1 and have found I prefer 8.1 with a start menu mod on.

Either choice as plywrlw said will give a free upgrade to 10 so doesn't matter to much.

Oh! Also, if anyone doesn't mind. Could I get a few builds for around.. hmm.. let's say $600 - $700 range? I'm assuming I'd not to much performance / graphics would be lost? (or so I hope. Ha-ha).

It would be a pretty big drop in CPU performance (only really an issue for Tera). I'll post something in a min.

Here: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/XyWXWZ

The main change is, no SSD and dropping down to an i3... You will see some FPS spikes (maybe as low as 15-20 fps) in Tera with a decent amount of people around.

Oh man. That would be a bummer. Thanks for sharing though. :D

That would only be when you have a lot of people around.. most of the time you should have 60+ fps. Its when you start having like 50+ people around when you will see the spikes. But this will happen no matter what CPU you have, just with an i5 the spikes might be only down to 30 fps or so.
