Hi y'all! I'm currently planning out my first build and would like some help in choosing components suitable to my needs. Thanks for any help!

Approximate Purchase Date: Summer 2015
Budget Range: 3000-4000

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, watching movies

Are you buying a monitor: Yes, preferably something over 90hz refresh rate, but am also looking for something that plays movies quite well.

Parts to Upgrade: (New Build)

Do you need to buy OS: Yes
Please note that if you're using an OEM license of Windows, you will need a new one when buying a new motherboard.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg

Location: New York City, New York

Parts Preferences: Prefer Intel and NVIDIA

Overclocking: Yes
SLI or Crossfire: Yes
Your Monitor Resolution: Prefer a resolution in between 1920x1080 and 4k

Additional Comments: Quiet and very powerful is what I’m going for. I’m looking to build a very powerful computer which will last a while. I’m conflicted on what monitor(s) to get, since I would like a monitor that it suitable for gaming, as well as watching movies.

CPU: Intel 4790k

GPU: Dual GTX 980 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487079

Motherboard: Not really sure which kind of motherboard I should get, something that is pretty user friendly would be nice, as well as easy to build with.

PSU: Looking for something high, end and fully modular

Fans: I’m honestly pretty lost on what type of fans I should get if I want to minimize noise.

CPU Cooler: Looking for something liquid cooled, not sure what case/cooler will fit alongside SLIed 980s with adequate noise reduction

Memory: Corsair Dominator Platinum 4x4 (16 gb) DDR3-1600

(Should I consider higher speed memory? not exactly sure if I really need the higher speeds)

Goals: A powerful, “future-proof” rig which can run all upcoming and modern games for a long time, as well as having an adequate monitor which plays movies at high quality. This is going to be my first build, so “noob” friendly components which work well together is prefferred.

Solution
This would be as much future proofing as you could get.
6 core processor that will run the video cards in a true 16X16 instead of 8X8.
Plenty of fast memory.
The 8GB version of the video cards should be out by then and the 980ti models.
As above the best gaming monitor made right now 1440P and 144 refresh rate.

Future proofing is a myth their no such thing. Anything you buy today can be replaced next year with something better.
Your best bet on that would be a X99 board and 6 core processor.
For the video cards you need to figure the monitor resolution out first then pick the cards.
For right now really no reason to pick anything they will be new cards out by summer.
