Hi all. I used to own one of these when they first came out.

Since then, long story, moved tons of times, no money etc. At the moment Im still using the PC I built in 2011 for £70.
Specs:
amd 64x2 6000+, 4gb ram, 500, 550w psu (cant remember) and a 9600GT 512mb.

Its serves me pretty well and can still play lots of games (although not most of the latest) at 1080p

Heres my question:

according to benchmarks the 8800GTX still outperforms the 9600GT. Is this the case?

Also. It has 2x pcie power connectors instead of the 9600s 1.

At the moment I have a 2 molex to pcie power connector running that card. Can I use another adapter to run the 8800? IS the psu powerful enough and is there any risk?

People have told me that to use molex to pcie power adapters is a definite no no but ive been running my 9600 with one for almost 5 years now.

Cheers

Solution
The GTX 8800 requires a 450W PSU with 30A on the +12V rails. You need to open the side panel of your PC case and check how much current you have on the +12V rails, there should be a table on the side of the PSU . You need 4 molex power connectors and two adapters ( two 4-pin molex to one pcie 6-pin) to run the card properly.
