I am currently suffering from an a level of indecision and ignorance that i was hoping the community could help me out with. I'm looking into buying the Xonar Essence STX II 7.1 sound card.

I currently live with roommates and don't have a living room to really make my own so the plan is to have a hand built computer of my own about as self sufficient and home theater-ish as possible.

I would like to use the Daughter board to power a set of headphones like the Razor Tiamat 7.1's or similar and ~equally capable headphone. The mainboard? on the other hand i would like to power a 5.1-7.1 surround sound speaker system.

example. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/klipsch-hd-theater-600-5-1-channel-home-theater-speaker-system-with-powered-subwoofer-black-pica-vinyl-high-gloss-black-black-pica-vinyl-high-gloss-black/1308089162.p?id=mp1308089162&skuId=1308089162

The goal is to have a surround system that i can use when i dont have to worry about being a nuisance to my neighbors and roommates and a headset that i can use when it's quiet time without really having to compromise on sound when it comes to either.

for all intents and purposes this card seems to appear to be the thing i'm looking for, but due to the 2 sound cards and the variety of connections i'm afraid my ignorance prevents me from being entirely sure of myself in this and i worry about it not working so cleanly as just having the speaker system on the mother-sound-board and the headset on the daughterboard.

all responses and clarity on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

My motherboard does in fact come with 7.1 surround sound on my board. That sound however is un-amped and can't even power a pair of 2.1 surround computer speakers at the moment.

unless you're recommending i buy and wire up an external audio amplifier to run my desktop sound i'd rather have my mechanics internal.
